“A gentle and quiet spirit.” 1Peter 3:4

I once interpreted this to mean women should keep quiet, never become overzealous. Like Julie Andrews we would simply remember our favorite things and then we won’t feel so bad. But it was never that simple. I, like Jeremiah, had a fire in my bones and I grew weary of holding it in.

As I kept coming to the Lord, understanding who He was, the light dawned. Precious to God is the hidden person of the heart. You and me believer, we carry a sword. From within the word of God goes out and cuts down our enemies. Every morning we suit-up for another day of war. Preaching the word in and out of season. Praying fervently with all our faculties. Ready to give an account for the hope we have in Jesus.

“We make our homes a church for God, as one would if she were being called to lead an army to battle for the Lord of hosts.” – Charles Spurgeon

We’re not afraid to do good, nor are we frightened by terror. We refrain our tongues from evil, our lips from speaking deceit. We seek peace and pursue it like a warrior out of a gentle and quiet spirit.

It amazes me how a few words can change a life.
