“Not as the world gives do I give to you.” -John 14:27

Many times we need the Holy Spirit to explain.

I’m reading the words and they make sense but not impacting my heart. It’s like knowing you need to eat vegetables but can’t understand how something so bland could actually make you happy.

We need salt.

This is how Eugene Peterson interprets this passage of scripture, and it tastes so good.

“I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.”

Jesus was leaving, but the Holy Spirit was staying. Now closer than EVer. When Jesus was here in physical form the apostles denied, scattered, fell asleep in need of the kind of peace only the Spirit could provide.

Jesus sent His own personal Peace—that spoke boldly, suffered joyfully, lived & died triumphantly.

Making His own the salt of the earth.

It amazes me how a few words can change a life.
