Satisfying Drink

It was a breath of pure energy. You know that feeling? The first crank of a sealed window. Fresh air pushed its way in, opened lungs, and brushes ever so softly, delicately against thirsty skin.

I got comfortable there like I’d died and gone to heaven.

The magnolia eagerly opens. White petals thrust off their winter covering for a touch of sunlight. Robins are on the hunt for a place to nest, and lay their water-blue eggs. And we’re all aching for new life.

“Nature is God’s greatest evangelist.” –Jonathon Edwards

The Word that held my heart this morning came from Matthew 12:21, “And His name will be the hope of all the world.” The opening of Spring means nothing without the hope of Christ in a parched heart. It fades with the day. We quickly notice winter’s smudges, requiring our efforts and misguided affections. There’s no end to the distractions the devil is planting to steal God’s glorious beginnings.

The rain has started. Time to close up.

Showers spray from a canopy of white, and the earth drinks up it’s quota from heavens’ storehouses.

Sip Him slow. Sip Him long—the Lord is your one satisfying drink.

“Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distill as dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, and as showers on the grass.” (Deut 32:2)
