“Inquire first.” 1 Kings 22:5

Who do you call first for answers, direction, honest to goodness help?Spouse, friend, mom, doctor, lawyer?

I suffer from a history of emotional neglect and anxiety with panic causes me to run circles inside my head even when facing a routine day. Medication helps, but it’s the living word of God that calls me out of that dark space into a broad place—an intimate garden of grace. And the fresh air feels good. My nerves settle down out here. I think clear as long as I inquire of the Lord.

It takes practice, taking thoughts captive. Consciously stopping and redirecting. We’re all just wandering sheep without the Shepherd.

The king of Israel didn’t want to hear from the Lord. He wanted to go to war. Stuck in his generational evil ways, king Ahab was only interested in hearing himself.

By grace alone, I grew tired of that game. I couldn’t stand hearing the painful truth—until Jesus started speaking healing into each wound.

“He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.” (John 10:3

“You may always be sure that that which comes from the devil will make you look at yourselves and not at Christ. The Holy Spirit’s work is to turn our eyes from ourselves to Jesus Christ, but the enemy’s work is the very opposite.” –Charles Spurgeon

I am but a shadow and He the sun.

It amazes me how a few words can change a life.
