What a graphic image Jesus gives us of our sin. A bloody one, if we’re being honest. Sort of makes us uncomfortable. And that is exactly what sin should do to the children of His love.
What things in your life come between you and God? Is it a habit? A relationship? Your reputation? Are you like the rich man who cannot part with his heritage? His riches? Traditions? Affectionate for your old ways of thinking? What is cutting into your intimacy with the Holy Spirit?
God wants it gone. Not ignored, not thought a small deal, whatever that “hand” is — Jesus became a bloody mess to get rid of it.
Are you unwilling to forgive, like me? Saying “Okay” to ways that completely deny His resurrection power?
Jesus didn’t come to ease up on the Law or the Prophets, but to perfect it. To overflow His essence within us. To finish what God started.
Whatever God is asking us to cut off, we’d be shocked to know — we can live without it. In fact, we’ll be overjoyed when it’s gone.
