“They neither listened nor obeyed.” 2 Kings 18:12

Heart check. Are you listening to the Lord? Are you obeying? Because God is Spirit we can be drawn away easily, start to think He’s not even listening. Don’t fall for this. The Lord is near to those who call on His name. I’ll say it again (for my own sake). The Lord is near to those who call on Him!

The world is noisy with bells and whistles, but the Lord speaks knowledge and wisdom. Any thought in your head that tries to distract from abiding in the Holy Spirit of God, engaging in prayer, scripture, songs of praise is an enemy of God and must be resisted.

No soldier advances, much less survives, on the battlefield simply because he wears a uniform, simply because she says, “I am a soldier.” No! We gain ground, make headway as we listen and obey our Captain. For our enemies are not flesh and blood. Our enemies are not taken by force. They are defeated by the action of submission—listening and obeying orders from above.

“This is an enemy’s land. Expect a foe behind every bush, look to hear the shot come whistling by, and each night adore almighty grace that you have not fallen a prey to your cruel and remorseless foes” –Charles Spurgeon

It amazes me how a few words can change a life.
