Affection: the emotional realm of love. (I had to look it up.)
I don’t think I’ve ever noticed affection relating to Jesus before. Compassion, love, without question—but affection?
I went searching for more. A few verses later Paul uses the word sincere, and that’s what softened my heart. The affection of Jesus Christ is nothing if not sincere.
Affection has always been an anomaly to me. Therefore, receiving affection from Jesus has been difficult, to say the least. God is Spirit, which I thought would make affection even more unlikely to reach.
I was wrong. The affection of the Holy Spirit is closer than any human can be, more encompassing, far more intimate than I ever dreamed.
Curled up on the couch with a subtle cloud of anxiety, I pray. Sensing His Hand brushing back hair from face my insides settle like warm tea. David sits next to me and his hand starts doing the same thing.
There be no small degree of anything in the realm of Christ’s love for you and me.
