Can you imagine the strength? The preparation it took Jesus to get to that day? The mercy it takes to be led by the devil for the sake of a world of people who call you a fake? On the road to Calvary — same thing. Jesus, sent by God, taken like a thief.
The hell Jesus went through no human could possibly do.
Forty days he didn’t eat, didn’t drink, and here comes the devil waving bread in his face. Coercing Jesus’ weakened state to throw in the towel and forget you and me.
Why would Jesus do such things? Surely there’s a less humiliating, horrific way to save us from our sin?
No, this is it. “For the wages of sin is death,” God said. In every way drug through the mud so as to sympathize with us. And yet, never wavered, never caved. Steadfast still today.
Tell me that isn’t love.
