The Father Who Loves You

Then Israel will no longer be tempted to trust in Egypt for help.
Ezekiel 29:16

The Lord is serious about His kids. He’s not a Father who trusts His children in the hands of any other. In a culture where wealth and prosperity are thought to fix everything, we can easily be swayed away from the Father who loved us enough to give His life for us.

We’ve seen it before; kids who pick sides between parents. Typically, we side with one who bends easily, needs only a whine and a pair of soft eyes to give us all we want, regardless if it’s good for us or not. That was Israel, departing from God, and buttering-up with Egypt. They forgot it was the Lord who cared for them, embraced them, freed them from oppression, led them with compassion, fed them in the desert. Their eyes wandered. Their stomachs growled. And their hearts coveted.

What lie is tempting you from the goodness of the Lord? What’s promising more satisfaction, more contentment, more peace of mind than the voice of God?

We know the Lord disciplines those He loves, and punishes each one He accepts as a child. (Hebrews 12:6) Because discipline brings knowledge, and those who hate correction die in the wilderness.

Anything we lean on, apart from the Lord, sooner or later will splinter and break. Setting our hopes on the things of this world—she will surely collapse, her legs will give way. For the form of this world is passing away. (1 Corinthians 7:31)

I will lift my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)

Pause & Pray: Father, no matter what we face today, may we turn our ears to Your call. May we run into Your loving arms and remember how small we really are. Thank Jesus.

How is God speaking to you?
